Fr Patrick O'Donovan SSC

Fr Pat spent the next forty one years in the parishes of Pangasinan, apart from a six-year period 1978-1984, when he served as District Superior of Luzon residing in Singalong, Manila. He was pastor of the following parishes, Lingayen, Sual, Labrador, Domalandan, Dasol, Infanta and Eguia, returning to some of them years later for a second and even a third period.

In 1994 he was assigned to Ireland in order to receive treatment for a serious skin condition. He worked in Cork’s South Parish, and helped out in many other parishes as long as his health permitted. In recent years he suffered a great deal of pain in spite of the efforts of countless specialists. He died in Dalgan Nursing Home on 2nd February 2009.

Pat was always approachable and kind, a leader, a deeply spiritual man with a genuine concern for the poor. He empowered and encouraged people, had a great sense of fun, and loved nothing more than a close-fought game of cards or golf. His many friends will miss his gentle presence.

May he rest in peace.
